History
1925 The Greater Newark Bowling Association was formed for the bowlers of Essex County.
1930 There were 34 leagues with 254 teams.
1931 The State Association was formed and elected the president and secretary from the
G.N.B.A.
1933 Motion to award the 1935-1936 county tournament by bid.
1935 First tournament report published.
G.N.B.A. changed name to Essex County Bowling Association and incorporated
under the laws of the State of New Jersey.
1939 All lanes within the jurisdiction of the A.B.C. after being resurfaced must be measured
and approved each year by the local association.
1945 Essex County held a 50th anniversary party to honor the A.B.C. on it's 50 years.
1948 List publiched with all unsactioned leagues noted and sent to all secretaries of
sanctioned leagues.
1954 Year book averages first used.
1961 Blazers to be worn by E.C.B.A. committee after 2nd year.
Junior bowling association formed.
1971 Commemorative stamps showing bowling issued by the postal service.
1972 Photos and identification cards first used in lanes by lane reps.
1974 First Hall of Fame dinner held.
1975 Individual membership used for the first time.
1978 Print out sheets used for the first time to compile final averages.
1990 President to hold office for two years.
Bowler of the Year implementation
1991 Hall of Fame dinner voted to be held every two years.
1994 Essex County to host state jamboree.
History of the E.C.B.A. and E.C.B.A. tournament completed.
1995 Essex County hosted the State Tournament at Eagle Rock and Olympic Bowl.
First year bowler tournament instituted.
1996 Essex County bowling Association Senior Singles Tournament held.
First Year Bowler Tournament held at BellClair.
1998 Clean series program began.
2000 Held a dinner at the Essex Manor celebrating 75 years of service to the bowlers
of Essex County.
2002 Essex County Bowling Association to host the 2002 jamboree.
2003 New Jersey State Bowling Tournament was held at Eagle Rock Lanes.
2004 First year fot the 700 Series Tournament using the Step Ladder Format.
The vote for the A.B.C. and the W.I.B.C. National Conventions for merger into one
entity was approved.
They are now know as the United States Bowling Congress.
